The main job of the neuron is to send and receive signals to command the body and our actions. Neurons intake information then process it and decide if the information should be shared and sent to other neurons, muscles, or glands. The cell body (soma), dendrites, axon, and axon terminals are all parts of the neuron that are different from other cells. For our project, we showed the soma, dendrites, axon, and axon terminals all in drawing with colors to add emphasis. Neurons produce neurotransmitters that carry signals from one neuron to another. The neurotransmitters are carried through vesicles and then are released through the process called Exocytosis; it is then caught on something called a receptor protein. Receptor proteins are made by the Rough E.R. Organelles that are important to neurons are vesicles, Smooth E.R., Rough E.R., nucleus, and mitochondria along with all other organelles. Vesicles help to move proteins that are created in the smooth and rough E.R. to other places. The nucleus is very important to the neuron seeing that it commands the cell and neurons control the whole body by sending signals to neurotransmitters to make. The mitochondria are very important to the neuron seeing that it has the largest energy use over time and needs the mitochondria to produce the energy. When brain cancer occurs, glial cells which live around the neuron to help support it and bring nutrients to the cell become cancerous; they dive and bring cancer to the nerve cells.
for our EDUCATION station our group decided to do the effects of RADIATION THERAPY. we made a model that shows how a TUMOR lives in the body and how the ration helps to kill the TUMOR. We also made another model that show how the RADIATION makes the cells die. I REALLY liked this project and how hands on it was. In my group we made two models. We had an ORIGINAL idea and needed it to come to life. this project was one of the first times that I had spent A LOT of time working with POWER tools and in the maker space where there are so many options. I GAINED the skills to PHYSICALLY BUILD something.
