This photo does fulfill the assignment of an abstract urban photo. This photo was taken downtown in an urban location and was taken in a way which makes you wonder what it is.I like that the photo looks kind of blurry and grainy. I think it adds to the photo being abstract. On the next assignment I will make sure I go and take photos in the location that is requested of me. In this assignment I tried to avoid doing that and it did not make it easy for me to complete this seeing that I had to go downtown with little time left in the assignment. When working in a lightroom I learned how to adjust the color of a photo, the temperature, highlights, shadow, exposure ect. I have learnt that positioning can make or break a photograph and that negative space doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing; in fact, you can use it to your advantage. The location of your subject(s) in your photograph gives you the opportunity to draw attention to a certain area or scene. Negative space can be used to emphasize certain elements and draw focus to the main subject.
Composition
My definition of composition in photography is the ability a photographer has to direct where the viewer's eyes go. For the photographer to control the viewer's eyes they have to place key parts of the photos in different places to help to show the value and importance of a certain area. The image that I took follows the rules of composition. In this photo I wanted to highlight the panel in between the handrails. To do this I used the rule of thirds to get a general placement but this photo also uses the golden spiral effect to draw your eye towards the place I wanted. I also tried to use the negative space to help make other elements pop. I believe that this photo does follow the rules of composition because of where I placed everything in my photo. I am taking away that placement can make or break a photo and that negative space doesn't have to be a bad thing and you should actually use it to your advantage. When you place the subject/’s of your photo it allows you to direct the viewer's eye to a certain place or in a certain odor. Negative space can help to show the importance of different parts and draw attention to the main subject. Whatever you are wanting to show you should give the most space to.
Exposure Triangle and Night Photography
I noticed that it was harder than I thought to get the shot that you might have wanted seeing that everyone was moving during the parade . I did find that this experience was fun. I learned that you have to move fast and dont be mad if you don't get the shot you originally wanted. It was challenging to have all of the settings on the camera correct so that I could get the best photo. I like the way that some of my images looked but I think that if I had a better understanding of the camera I would have created some more high quality images. I learned that you have to use all parts of the exposure triangle to get the best looking photo. If you change one setting you have to adjust the others so the photo looks balanced and gives the effect that you want. I am learning that you can really change what the photo looks like by making minor adjustments to many different things and you have complete control of what the final product looks like. Versus in photoshop you didn't have as much control. I wanted to capture all of the movement and life in the parade. Like the vibes that the ska beer people were giving off through the parade. I took a few different photos of them but really liked this one and the way the light hit the people in the center and left the back black just for the other lights to light it up slightly.
Digital Photo Collage
When working on this assignment I learned that you have to not be such a perfectionist and have to just let go and do what the photos tell you to do. I thought that parts of this assignment were fun but I did struggle with it seeing that it took me a long time and I wanted it to be perfect. For me it was a challenge to let go of the perfectionist aspect and just create a piece of beautiful work. I am proud of my final piece of work. I realized that I had to take a lot more photos than I thought and that I need to let the photos speak and let me be creative and not such a perfectionist. I chose to photograph something that I get to see every day and sometimes take for granted. I wanted to show the mountains and bring a new beauty to them. I think that the mountains in general are very beautiful and I think that I showed them in a way that was beautiful. I am proud of my final product.
Portrait
During this process of creating this work I noticed that if you just talk to people they will have an easier time opening up and wanting to share and you get to see more of their real emotions. I did find this fun and it was honestly enjoyable to get to talk with Cameron. For me it was a challenge to find a good location to take the photos so that the background didnt take away from Cameron. Yes I do . I really like the final product and how it all came together and I liked actually taking the photos but I also liked getting to edit them and improve the final product. I started by finding a person to photograph and then finding a location to do it. Then I talked to my person about something that they love in life and got to have a real conversation with them. I then took photos when they were talking. I then edited my final product to further improve it. I chose to capture Cameron because I like her and I wanted to capture her talking about something that she loves. I think because I chose such a great person it made it very easy to capture her and create beautiful work.
